Boom scrolling (treadmill + social media)
Chris calls this 'boom scrolling' — the antidote to doom scrolling. He describes being on the treadmill, Share Believe playing on loop, spinning around, having a 'fucking great time' just sending links to people. Chris notes this is how social media 'is supposed to be consumed' — at high heart rate, you just 'forget about all the like new stuff' and fall into productive discovery holes. Chris observes that in this flow state, the 'frame rate of reality completely slows down' similar to meditation, which is when he noticed his own embarrassing engagement-metric-checking behavior.
Physical exertion at ~130 BPM heart rate alters cognitive processing of content — the high arousal state prevents the usual negative spiral of doom scrolling and instead channels it into excited discovery and sharing behavior.
Chris: 'I go on a treadmill at like 15 incline three in... I've got Share Believe on loop playing. I'm spinning around. I'm having a fucking great. I'm just sending links to people.'
That's how social media I think is supposed to be consumed. If you're at 130 beat... heart rate per minute, you just like forget about all the like new stuff goes and I'm just in like these holes like finding stuff.
