Lengthen Time Between Meals
DeLauer argues that insulin resistance is largely a result of constant insulin signaling, which desensitizes cells. By creating longer windows without food, the body can resensitize to insulin. He references intermittent fasting and alternate-day fasting research showing that even without calorie reduction, insulin sensitivity improves. He emphasizes that this is the first and easiest step, and that Dr. Sha Omera, a visceral fat expert, agrees with this approach. He notes that many people struggle with carb reduction, so meal spacing is a more accessible starting point.
Hyperinsulinemia causes cells to downregulate insulin receptors. Extended periods without food lower insulin levels, allowing cells to upregulate receptors and become more responsive. This reduces the drive for liver fat accumulation and subsequent visceral fat expansion.
I don't even care at first if we change our calorie count. Okay? Increase the time between meals and sporadically have longer periods of time.
