OS-01 Hair Serum Application Protocol
OneSkin's approach is rooted in the biology of aging. As we age, senescent cells accumulate in tissues, including the scalp, where they secrete factors that impair the function of neighboring healthy cells and break down the extracellular matrix. In hair, this translates to follicle miniaturization and eventual loss. Karolina's team first validated that a stress hormone (cortisol-like) could induce senescence in cultured hair follicle cells. They then showed that OS-01 treatment reversed the number of senescent cells and stimulated hair shaft elongation in lab models. The clinical trial, conducted independently, demonstrated robust regrowth that outpaced minoxidil. Because the product is drug-free and targets a pathway common to many types of hair loss (cellular senescence and inflammation), it can be layered with other therapies. The twice-daily recommendation comes from the clinical protocol; however, Karolina herself uses once-daily at night due to convenience and sees results, suggesting that prevention dosing can be lighter.
The OS-01 peptide selectively targets and reduces cellular senescence in the hair follicle microenvironment. In vitro, it reversed senescence induced by stress hormones. By clearing these zombie cells, it removes their pro-inflammatory signals—often compared to pulling weeds so healthy plants can grow—allowing follicle stem cells to re-enter the growth phase. The water-based serum penetrates easily because the hair follicle opening provides a direct channel. The prebiotics nourish beneficial scalp microbes, shifting the microbiome away from bad bacteria and fungi that contribute to inflammation and hair loss. Ficetin provides additional antioxidant and mild senolytic effects.
Karolina uses the serum once a day at night. She started using it after seeing the 6-month data and has noticed more baby hairs along her hairline. She has a family history of androgenic hair loss and is currently trying to conceive, so she avoids minoxidil and finasteride; she combines the serum with occasional PRP injections and a red light therapy hat. The host, Dr. Kara Fitzgerald, has just started using it for her own noticeable thinning at the hairline and plans to track progress.
I use once a day. I personally use once a day just because it's it's hard. I know that twice a day can be too much and and to style the hair so I use at night.
