Evening Grounding (Earthing)
DeLauer cites a study from the Journal of Environmental and Public Health showing that standing on the ground reduces inflammation and salivary cortisol. He acknowledges the concept sounds esoteric but insists it is firmly grounded (pun intended) in physics: the earth's electromagnetic field interacts with human biology, and free electrons from the surface enter the body to neutralize positively charged oxidative stress. For visceral fat, the primary benefit is lowering the chronic stress load and improving sleep architecture, which in turn supports normal circadian cortisol rhythms and overnight fat burning.
Free electrons from the earth's surface are absorbed through the skin, acting as antioxidants that quench reactive oxygen species. This reduces systemic inflammation and modulates the HPA axis, lowering cortisol. Improved sleep follows, fostering growth hormone pulses and lipolysis.
standing on the dirt with bare feet or concrete can allow for free electrons to come into the body and actually neutralize oxidative stress. But most importantly, for the context of visceral fat lowers cortisol and helps you sleep.
