daily 56‑Ironman recovery routine
The routine was refined daily. Karaś emphasizes that he never had muscle soreness after the first few days, attributing it partly to hydrogen inhalation and continuous movement. He notes that the most critical element was not the regimen itself but the mental relief of knowing a hot meal and massage awaited him at the finish line each night, which made the final kilometers bearable. On days when his lumbar seized, he had to race the clock before the next day’s start, illustrating how fragile the schedule could be without flawless support.
Hydrogen inhalation was described as accelerating lactate clearance, boosting recovery, and supposedly preventing illness; Karaś believes it stopped him from getting sick despite immune suppression. Massage maintained muscle pliability, and ice baths reduced local inflammation.
He says after the third day a doctor warned he could die if he continued (CK 17,000 vs. normal <500), but he kept going because the routine worked. He also highlights that he never exchanged that third‑day misery for any later day, even day 50+.
Around 7:30 I woke up, went downstairs to the ice. Uhh, soaked my legs for a while, drank some Gatorade. Then I went upstairs for breakfast, then went to do hydrogen inhalation, then went for second breakfast.
