High-Dose Vitamin D3 and Magnesium Glycinate Supplementation
Dr. Berg strongly criticizes the standard RDA of 600 IU as 'ridiculous' and argues that age-related resistance and tissue barriers require much higher intakes. He equates 20,000 IU to 40 minutes of sun exposure, framing it as a natural dose. The synergy with magnesium is emphasized because many are deficient and taking vitamin D without magnesium can be ineffective or even harmful. He also warns against cheap magnesium oxide, advocating exclusively for the highly absorbable glycinate form to see changes.
Vitamin D binds to receptors in prostate cells, inhibiting proliferation and reducing inflammation. Magnesium acts as a cofactor for the enzymes that convert vitamin D into its active form; without it, vitamin D remains inactive. Additionally, magnesium regulates smooth muscle tone and prevents calcium deposition in prostate tissue, which can otherwise lead to fibrosis.
I would not take anything less than 20,000 IUs ... So in 20,000 I use of vitamin D3 per day, is equivalent to being out in the sun for 40 minutes. It's not that big of a deal.
