Super Veggie Meal
The creation of Super Veggie reflects Johnson’s rejection of dietary labels like keto or vegan in favor of pure evidence. The team reviewed all available nutrition science, ranked foods by health outcomes, and then combined top performers into an edible dish. The result is a recipe that uses only real foods, no processed additives, and is easy to assemble. Johnson started eating this alongside Nutty Pudding as his sole meals, finding it both nutritionally comprehensive and cheaper than most diets because it relies on bulk ingredients like lentils and frozen vegetables. The dish is designed to be modifiable (spices can vary) while maintaining the nutritional core.
Black lentils provide slowly digestible protein and fiber, managing glycemic response; cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower) supply sulforaphane and antioxidants that activate detoxification pathways; shiitake mushrooms contribute beta-glucans for immune modulation; garlic and ginger offer anti-inflammatory compounds; apple cider vinegar is often cited for improving post-meal insulin sensitivity. The synergy creates a low-calorie-density, high-satiety meal that supports stable energy and cellular health.
Johnson personally lived on only Super Veggie and Nutty Pudding in the early days of Blueprint, calling it ‘probably one of the most cost-efficient ways of eating.’
We looked at the scientific evidence behind the best performing foods according to all the science that's been done around nutrition, and we just said, 'Okay, let's take the top performer and then number two, number three.' And we just said, 'What are those foods?' We had a master list.
