Oregano, Epsom Salt & Lavender Bath for Lyme Flares
At 19, after nearly dying in the ICU from aggressive Lyme treatments, Dr. Rahm refused further IV antibiotics and began researching natural remedies in the library. She found an article suggesting oregano could kill spirochetes. Desperate, she combined the oregano with things she knew from her farm‑raised background—Epsom salt for muscle aches, lavender for calm. The baths were painful (“it would burn so bad”) but she noticed a clear pattern: the next day her fever dropped and her mental fog lifted slightly. She kept a diary tracking the effect, and over two years the baths became a cornerstone of her self‑directed recovery, along with antifungals and spirulina.
The active constituents of oregano oil are believed to disrupt bacterial cell membranes, including the Borrelia spirochete, while heat from the bath helps open pores and increase antimicrobial absorption.
She says, “I would get out and have this red rash but I started noticing that I would feel better the next day, that if I had a fever it would go down.” Over time she credits the oregano baths with helping her regain enough health to return to school.
I had read an article that showed that oregano could kill the spiral sheets. So I would put it in the water with Epsom salt and lavender. … it would burn so bad and when I got out I would have this red rash but I started it worked like I started noticing that I would feel better the next day that if I had a fever it would go down.
